An anti-piracy accord has been urged to be called upon by world governments, by Javier Bardem.
In this era of video piracy, a resolution providing actors similar reliefs as screenwriters and composers to seek compensation from those who illegally download their work, is being advocated upon by the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO).
Given the increase in video piracy with advancement of internet technology, it was emphasized by the Hollywood star that piracy of films and television shows have had a tremendously negative impact on the livelihoods of actors around the globe.
The Oscar winner actor also stated that most actors face serious problems to pay rent, bills, and even to eat. Remuneration of actors is crucial, for the strugglers, especially, who have to face such basic problems on a daily basis.
The "No Country For Old Men" continued opines that video piracy is "like going to a shop, getting those products for free, and running."
His movement has been strongly supported by film producers such as Iain Smith and Bobby Bedi.
However, it is entirely at the discretion of the United Nations committee to draft an officially recognised treaty on the prevention of media piracy, and a sitting for this shall be held in September 2011.
